Mandela Day 2013

As a tribute to an extraordinary man who embodies the highest values of humanity. Today Sagewood School celebrated the 67 years of service Nelson Mandela gave toward the fight for human rights.

Sagewood School Programme – 18th July 2013
7:45 – 8:00    Everyone moved to the amphitheatre to commence the Assembly in Honour of Madiba
08:00  Opening of Assembly by Ms Johreen Patel (Director)
          Voluntary Prayers for Madiba  by Yolanda Wyatt & Mpho Shai(Grade 11’s)
Address on the Legacy of Madiba  by Linda Naidoo (Deputy Principal – Prep)
          Tribute to Madiba: Poems   performed by Yolanda Matjie & Nastascia Montepara
             Lighting of candles for 9 Principles that Madiba stood by Grade 11 Learners
          Singing of Special 95th Birthday Song for Madiba by everybody
          Releasing of Helium Balloons by 4 Reps per school
          Singing of the National Anthem by everybody
          Hold Hands and stand in Silence for 67 seconds    everybody
08:30  Learners return to classes to write down special wishes for Madiba.  
All wishes must be submitted to the class teacher and head of departments.  
All submissions will be used to create a collage which will be shared with the community.

We are also collecting non-perishables which will be donated to the New Jerusalem Children's Home as small gesture of solidarity with humanity and a step towards a global movement for good.


As a school we extend our best wishes to former President Nelson Mandela on his 95th birthday; he will remain a symbol of change and unity in our lives.
